The Patient on the Other Side

In 1976, Naomi crossed a long wooden swinging bridge near Buckhorn, Kentucky, carrying nursing supplies to visit a patient on the other side. Fifty years later, I found that same crossing and stood where she had once walked. My return brought a new appreciation for her calling, her compassion, and the ordinary acts of faithfulness that shaped her life. Her story invites each of us to consider the gifts God has entrusted to us, the people who need our care, and our own next faithful step.

From Buckhorn to the World

A prayer spoken during a bitter Wisconsin winter led Naomi to the Appalachian hollers of Buckhorn, Kentucky. There, God gave her more than a nursing position—He gave her a calling, a wise mentor, and a spirit of compassionate service that shaped the rest of her life. What place, person, or unexpected circumstance has God used to shape yours?
