Many people quietly wonder:
“Why am I here?”
Life can sometimes feel like an endless cycle of responsibilities, disappointments, routines, and uncertainty. Yet the Bible teaches something profoundly encouraging:
God did not create you randomly.
According to Tony Evans in Called for a Purpose, every believer has been intentionally designed by God for His kingdom purposes. Your personality, experiences, spiritual gifts, passions, and even painful seasons can all be used by God.
Too often we think purpose only means:
- career success
- recognition
- achievements
- big ministry platforms
But biblical purpose is much deeper.
God’s purpose involves:
- glorifying Him
- serving others
- reflecting Christ
- encouraging people
- growing spiritually
- faithfully using what He has entrusted to us
One of the most powerful truths in the devotional is that God often shapes purpose through hardship.
Seasons of grief, waiting, disappointment, illness, or uncertainty are not wasted in God’s hands. Scripture reminds us that He works all things together for good for those who love Him.
Sometimes the very struggles we wish we could erase become the places where God develops compassion, wisdom, and deeper faith.
Tony Evans also reminds readers that purpose grows out of relationship with God.
Before asking:
“Lord, what do You want me to do?”
…perhaps we should first ask:
“Lord, help me walk closely with You.”
When believers remain connected to Christ, direction often becomes clearer one step at a time.
God rarely reveals the entire roadmap at once. But He faithfully guides those who trust Him.
Your life matters. Your story matters. And no season surrendered to God is ever wasted.
Reflection Questions
- What experiences in your life might God now be using for a greater purpose?
- Are you pursuing success—or pursuing closeness with Christ?
- What next step of obedience might God be asking you to take?
Call to Action
This week, spend a few quiet moments asking God:
“Lord, show me how You want to use my life for Your glory.”
Then take one simple step:
- encourage someone
- serve quietly
- reconnect with God in prayer
- use a gift you have neglected
- trust Him in an uncertain area
Purpose is often discovered while walking faithfully with God one step at a time.
Our Work and our Calling.
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for creating us with purpose and intention. Help us trust that You are guiding our lives even during uncertain seasons. Teach us to seek You first and to walk faithfully wherever You lead.
Use our gifts, experiences, hardships, and opportunities for Your glory. Help us live not merely for ourselves, but for Your kingdom and for the encouragement of others.
Lead us one step at a time.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
