Honoring Naomi’s Legacy: A Journey of Love, Service, and Spiritual Continuity

Naomi’s Ministry Legacy

Naomi’s calling as a nurse and community health nurse was a testament to the healing touch of Christ, lived out in practical acts of compassion. Her service reached far beyond the hospital or clinic walls, extending to homes, churches, and neighborhoods. Whether comforting t he sick advocating for the vulnerable, or offering a listening ear to those in distress, Naomi embodied the heart of Christian ministry-a life poured out in love and service. Many can recall her quiet strength, her kindness, and her unwavering commitment to share the hope of Christ with all she encountered. In ministry, she touched not only bodies but souls, planting seeds of faith and encouragement that continues to bear fruit.

Continuing Our Covenant Across Heaven and Earth

The journey of marriage is not confined to shared physical spaces or earthly moments—it is a sacred covenant, a union that endures beyond the boundaries of time and place. Naomi’s presence with the Lord, while I walk this earthly path, presents a profound invitation to consider what it means to be “quite the team” even as we inhabit different worlds. The words of Roy Lessin ring true in this season: “Marriage is not a contract, but a covenant—a sacred vow of two hearts joined together by God for His divine purpose.” In this, the bond Naomi and I shared continues to live, anchoring my identity, shaping my actions, and calling me to honor her memory with purpose.

Reflections on Spiritual Unity and Legacy

Oswald Chambers’ insight—that “God can achieve His purpose either through the absence of human power and resources, or the abandonment of reliance on them”—reminds me that our shared life was, and remains, rooted in something far beyond our own abilities. Naomi’s faith, compassion, and unwavering commitment to her vocation as a nurse left an indelible mark on countless lives. Her story is woven into the fabric of Buckhorn, Kentucky, where over fifty years ago she began her journey of Christian renewal, and in Milwaukee, where her dedication to public health was a testament to her calling.

Continuing the Teamwork: Spiritual and Practical Ways to Honor Naomi

Though Naomi is now in heaven, our story is not finished. The “teamwork” that defined our marriage can continue, transformed but undiminished. Here are tangible ways to honor Naomi in both Buckhorn and Milwaukee, drawing upon the spiritual gifts and strengths that God has cultivated in me: More to come!

Embracing Spiritual Continuity

In honoring Naomi, I am reminded that the unity we shared in marriage was a reflection of God’s own faithfulness and creativity. Though we are in different “locations,” our covenant endures—now shaped by remembrance, hope, and a shared vision for God’s purpose. As I seek to serve, teach, and encourage in the places she loved, I trust that Christ continues to use our united story to bring healing, inspiration, and grace to others.

May my actions in Buckhorn and Milwaukee reflect Naomi’s legacy and our ongoing partnership in God’s work—one heart on earth, one in heaven, both forever joined in His love and purpose.

Exalting the Lord Together: A Reflection on Enduring Partnership

Honoring a Life of Shared Ministry with Naomi

In moments of quiet and in the midst of gathered worship, a question gently lingers in my heart: How do we continue exalting the Lord together when one who walked so faithfully by our side is now with Him in glory? As I reflect on 45 years of shared ministry with Naomi—years woven with prayer, service, laughter, tears, and unwavering faith—I sense that our spiritual connection endures, even as grief tints each memory with longing. This reflection is both a tribute and an invitation, for while Naomi now worships in the radiant presence of Christ, we are called to honor her legacy and continue lifting the Lord’s name together.

Though Naomi is now in heaven, our story is not finished. The “teamwork” that defined our marriage can continue, transformed but undiminished. Here are tangible ways to honor Naomi in both Buckhorn and Milwaukee, drawing upon the spiritual gifts and strengths that God has cultivated in me:

Enduring Spiritual Unity

Our partnership with Naomi was never merely practical or circumstantial; it was a spiritual bond rooted in Christ. Death, though it brings physical separation, cannot sever the unity formed by the Spirit. The connection we share with those who have gone before us abides within the mysterious communion of saints—a fellowship that continues across heaven and earth. Naomi’s prayers, her love, and her witness remain living threads in the fabric of our faith community.

Finding Comfort and Purpose

In seasons of loss, faith anchors us. We mourn, but not as those without hope. Our journey is not yet finished, and our calling remains clear—to honor Naomi by living out the faith we shared. Take comfort in knowing that love endures, that partnership persists in new forms, and that the Lord remains faithful. Purpose is found not just in looking back, but in moving forward—exalting the Lord together in all the ways His Spirit leads.

Exalting the Lord Together: Honoring Naomi’s Legacy of Shared Ministry

A reflection on enduring Partnership, Faith and Hope.

As we pause to reflect on the journey that has brought us together, a question gently arises: How do we continue to exalt the Lord together after Naomi’s passing-honoring both the life we shared and the ministry that continues to shape our community? In moments of loss and transition, we look to t he foundation that sustained us: Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together” (psalm 34:3I) these words, chosen as our wedding verse, became a touchstone in times of joy and challenge, inviting us again and again to lift our hearts in unity before Christ, our Lord and savior.

Scriptural Foundation: “Let Us Exalt His Name Together”

Psalm 34:3 calls to us: “Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.” These words once echoed from our lips in shared worship, but now they take on a deeper resonance. To exalt the Lord together is more than an act of singing or serving; it is a union of hearts, a collective longing, and a shared obedience that transcends the boundaries of time and space. This invitation from the psalmist remains—calling us to join with all the saints, both seen and unseen, in magnifying the goodness of God.

Scriptural Foundation: The Promise of Psalm 34:3

Psalm 34:3 is more than a verse-it is a call to faithful partnership, a reminder that our worship gains depth and strength when joined with others. Together we have declared God’s greatness, and together we have found refuge in His promises. The verse’s enduing relevance is amplified in community: when one voice falters, others rise to carry the song, and in this way, the spirit of shared exaltation prevails. the faith Naomi and I shared was anchored not only in words, but in the lived experience of god’s unfailing love and guidance through every season.

The stone with the verse on it was given to us at our wedding by Pastor Bahr’s wife Dorie.

Let us praise the Lord together, and exalt His name.
Let us praise the Lord together and exalt His name

Enduring Spiritual Unity

Through physical separation brings sorrow, the spiritual bond forged in Christ endures beyond what we can see or touch. Our partnership was not confined to the boundaries of time and space, but extended into fellowship with the ”’great cloud of witnesses” who encourage us onward (Hebrews 12:1). Naomi’s faithfulness to God-her steadfast prayers, her gentle encouragement, her unwavering t rut-has become w oven into the fabric of our communal life, reminding us that we are not alone in this journey. her legacy invites us to perceive unity through the eyes of faith trusting that Christ holds us together, whether present or apart.

Trusting in the Communion of Saints

Scripture assures us that we are surrounded by a “cloud of witnesses,” and this truth brings comfort; those who have finished their race now cheer us on as we continue ours. Naomi’s example remains a light along our path, reminding us that our faith is both personal and communal, sustained by those who pray for us, inspire us, and walk with us in spirit. We can find hope in knowing that our praises join a chorus that spans generations and will never be silenced.

Finding Comfort and Purpose

As we move forward, may we discover renewed purpose in honoring Naomi’s legacy. The pain of parting is real, yet the hope of Christ is greater still. By continuing the ministry she began-caring for others nurturing faith, and exalting the Lord in unity-we proclaim that love endures and that God’s work continues. Let us encourage one another, holding fast to the assurance that Christ guides us with compassion and strength, uniting us in faith, and mission.

What I Am Thankful For This Thanksgiving: 2025

I am so grateful to God for blessing my life with Naomi, who was with me for 45 years. Those years were truly a gift from the Lord. What an incredible woman of faith she was! I cherish the memory of our last Christmas together in 2023.

Last night, I wasn’t able to stand before my church family and share what’s on my heart this Thanksgiving, so I’m writing it here instead. Naomi at Alliance. That day brought with it a mix of sorrow and happiness, reminding me that our separation is only temporary. It’s a bittersweet day—sadness mixed with joy—because I know this separation is only for a little while. Even though it hurts, I find comfort remembering this is not goodbye forever.

Naomi’s Gentle Passing

When Naomi, my dear wife, drew her last breath here on earth, I felt an overwhelming peace that words cannot fully explain. Although grief remains, I am reassured by my faith that Naomi’s journey has merely changed course—that she has entered her true home in heaven, a place of love, joy, and everlasting fellowship. The Lord’s faithfulness was evident, even in the midst of loss, and His presence surrounded me as I let her go into His arms.

I imagine Naomi’s first moments in eternity—welcomed into the presence of Jesus by angels, finally seeing Him face to face after a lifetime of loving and serving Him. Her faith and devotion came to their ultimate fulfillment in that sacred meeting.

Naomi’s First Moments in Eternity

I can only picture the wonder and serenity that must have embraced Naomi as she crossed from faith into sight. Angels gently accompanied her into Jesus’s presence—the same Jesus she loved and followed every day. That meeting, beyond human description, must have filled her with unmatched joy. A lifetime of faith, worship, and hope led to this holy encounter. Naomi’s heart, always filled with love for her Lord, must have overflowed as she finally gazed upon the face of her Savior. Meeting Jesus directly is the fulfillment of every hope and prayer she ever carried.

A Reunion Beyond Compare

Heaven’s blessings didn’t stop there. Naomi soon reunited with her parents, siblings, my mother, and even her Jewish grandmother who came to faith in Jesus. Though Naomi never met her grandmother on earth, that heavenly embrace must have been beautiful. Family ties, once separated by death, are now joyfully restored where there’s no more sorrow or distance.

I can picture her also reuniting with those she served as a rural health nurse in Buckhorn, Kentucky—patients she visited and cared for with such compassion. Perhaps some of them welcomed her, too. What a joyful reunion that must have been!

Fellowship with God’s People

Naomi’s new life includes fellowship not only with loved ones, but also with the countless saints she learned about in Scripture—Abraham, Moses, Mary, Peter, and many more. Together, they worship the Lamb, sharing stories of grace and God’s endless love. There in heaven, Naomi’s journey continues—her worship is deeper, her joy is complete, and her love is fully realized. Filled with the great cloud of witnesses, she sings and rejoices forever in the presence of the King she adored during her earthly life—awaiting the day of resurrection on the new earth.

What a beautiful reunion that awaits all who share Naomi’s faith, and what hope we have in knowing that one day, we too will see Jesus face to face. And I, Richard, hold on to the promise that I will see Naomi again. Our time apart truly is just a brief pause in the light of eternity.

This is what fills my heart with gratitude this Thanksgiving. “To God be the glory.” I’m listening to that hymn as I write and reflect.

Closing Blessing

Gracious Lord, we thank You for Naomi’s life and for the gift of partnership in ministry. As we journey ahead, may Your Spirit bind us together in love, inspire us to serve, and grant us the courage to exalt Your name in every circumstance. May the legacy of shared faith be a source of comfort and hope, and may we continue to magnify Your goodness, now and always, Amen.
