Continuing Our Covenant Across Heaven and Earth

The journey of marriage is not confined to shared physical spaces or earthly moments—it is a sacred covenant, a union that endures beyond the boundaries of time and place. Naomi’s presence with the Lord, while I walk this earthly path, presents a profound invitation to consider what it means to be “quite the team” even as we inhabit different worlds. The words of Roy Lessin ring true in this season: “Marriage is not a contract, but a covenant—a sacred vow of two hearts joined together by God for His divine purpose.” In this, the bond Naomi and I shared continues to live, anchoring my identity, shaping my actions, and calling me to honor her memory with purpose.

Reflections on Spiritual Unity and Legacy

Oswald Chambers’ insight—that “God can achieve His purpose either through the absence of human power and resources, or the abandonment of reliance on them”—reminds me that our shared life was, and remains, rooted in something far beyond our own abilities. Naomi’s faith, compassion, and unwavering commitment to her vocation as a nurse left an indelible mark on countless lives. Her story is woven into the fabric of Buckhorn, Kentucky, where over fifty years ago she began her journey of Christian renewal, and in Milwaukee, where her dedication to public health was a testament to her calling.

Continuing the Teamwork: Spiritual and Practical Ways to Honor Naomi

Though Naomi is now in heaven, our story is not finished. The “teamwork” that defined our marriage can continue, transformed but undiminished. Here are tangible ways to honor Naomi in both Buckhorn and Milwaukee, drawing upon the spiritual gifts and strengths that God has cultivated in me: More to come!

Embracing Spiritual Continuity

In honoring Naomi, I am reminded that the unity we shared in marriage was a reflection of God’s own faithfulness and creativity. Though we are in different “locations,” our covenant endures—now shaped by remembrance, hope, and a shared vision for God’s purpose. As I seek to serve, teach, and encourage in the places she loved, I trust that Christ continues to use our united story to bring healing, inspiration, and grace to others.

May my actions in Buckhorn and Milwaukee reflect Naomi’s legacy and our ongoing partnership in God’s work—one heart on earth, one in heaven, both forever joined in His love and purpose.

Exalting the Lord Together: A Reflection on Enduring Partnership

Honoring a Life of Shared Ministry with Naomi

In moments of quiet and in the midst of gathered worship, a question gently lingers in my heart: How do we continue exalting the Lord together when one who walked so faithfully by our side is now with Him in glory? As I reflect on 45 years of shared ministry with Naomi—years woven with prayer, service, laughter, tears, and unwavering faith—I sense that our spiritual connection endures, even as grief tints each memory with longing. This reflection is both a tribute and an invitation, for while Naomi now worships in the radiant presence of Christ, we are called to honor her legacy and continue lifting the Lord’s name together.

Scriptural Foundation: “Let Us Exalt His Name Together”

Psalm 34:3 calls to us: “Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.” These words once echoed from our lips in shared worship, but now they take on a deeper resonance. To exalt the Lord together is more than an act of singing or serving; it is a union of hearts, a collective longing, and a shared obedience that transcends the boundaries of time and space. This invitation from the psalmist remains—calling us to join with all the saints, both seen and unseen, in magnifying the goodness of God.

Enduring Spiritual Unity

Our partnership with Naomi was never merely practical or circumstantial; it was a spiritual bond rooted in Christ. Death, though it brings physical separation, cannot sever the unity formed by the Spirit. The connection we share with those who have gone before us abides within the mysterious communion of saints—a fellowship that continues across heaven and earth. Naomi’s prayers, her love, and her witness remain living threads in the fabric of our faith community.

Finding Comfort and Purpose

In seasons of loss, faith anchors us. We mourn, but not as those without hope. Our journey is not yet finished, and our calling remains clear—to honor Naomi by living out the faith we shared. Take comfort in knowing that love endures, that partnership persists in new forms, and that the Lord remains faithful. Purpose is found not just in looking back, but in moving forward—exalting the Lord together in all the ways His Spirit leads.

Closing Blessing

May the peace of Christ, which surpasses all understanding, guard your hearts and minds as you walk this path. May you find comfort in cherished memories, strength in shared ministry, and hope in the promise of resurrection. As you exalt the Lord together—across heaven and earth—may your faith deepen, your love abound, and your hope remain steadfast, until the day we are all gathered in God’s glorious presence. Amen.
