Christian missions is not merely a special program for a few missionaries. From Genesis to Revelation, God’s worldwide mission is woven throughout the biblical story—and every Christ Follower is invited to participate.

Billions Are Still Unreached

The Joshua Project’s February 2026 infographic reports that approximately:

• 3.58 billion people live among unreached people groups.
• 7,100 people groups are still considered unreached.
• About one in five people on earth lives among the 50 largest unreached people groups.

These are more than statistics. Each number represents people created and loved by God—individuals, families and communities who may have little opportunity to hear a clear explanation of the gospel within their own culture.

How Perspectives Changed My Understanding

One of the most influential experiences in my Christian journey was Perspectives on the World Christian Movement.

My involvement began around 2002 when one of my wife Naomi’s fellow nurses gave her a coupon for a free introductory session. She told Naomi:

“Richard will be interested in this.”

She was right.

I attended the session and sat quietly in the back. During the intermission, a friend from my church placed a $100 bill on the table and asked whether I was going to register.

I picked up the money, walked to the registration table and signed up.

That ordinary moment opened a new door. Perspectives helped me see that God gives every Christ Follower a place in His global purpose.

Some go. Some send and support. Others pray, give, welcome international neighbors, encourage missionaries, mobilize churches or use their professional experience in service to others.

Age does not disqualify us. Retirement does not end our usefulness. God can still use our experiences, relationships, abilities and resources.

The question is not necessarily:

“Why didn’t I do more in the past?”

A better question may be:

“Lord, how would You like to use what You have already placed in my hands?”
